The digital sticker
The oldest approach: paste a 2D tattoo image over a photo of your skin, the way any photo editor or basic "tattoo maker" app does. It takes seconds and costs nothing.

- The design stays a flat rectangle — it does not curve around muscle or bone
- Useless for judging real size, distortion or wrap on a forearm, calf or shoulder

Method 2 · Live AR with a marker
The camera filter (popularized by INKHUNTER)
You draw a small marker on your skin with a pen, point the camera at it, and the app anchors the design there in real time. Walk to a mirror and the tattoo moves with you.
- True sense of scale and motion — you see the design as you move
- Fun, immediate, great for showing friends
- You have to draw on yourself for decent tracking, and it still jitters or loses lock
- Nearly impossible on your own back or other hard-to-reach spots
- The projection is still mostly flat — a moving sticker, not fitted ink

Method 3 · Generic 3D body model

Design wraps around a full 3D body you can rotate. Strong for visualizing large multi-angle pieces, and usually bundled with pro features like stencil export — at subscription prices, typically billed weekly.

You hand the AI your photo and a design and it renders the tattoo into your skin. The result can look convincingly real — but every adjustment means another full render.
